  • Pre‑Match Alert: Rohit Sharma on Security Briefing Before High‑Octane India‑Pakistan Game

Rohit Sharma shared some intriguing details from the build-up to India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup

Retired from two of the three formats, Rohit Sharma has now got the time to sit back, relax, and look back at some of his recent achievements in international cricket. Though the ODI World Cup dream still remains unfulfilled for Rohit, he did manage to lead the national team to the T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 titles recently. These events also included some gruelling contests against Pakistan, India’s arch-rivals

During an interview on JioHotstar, Rohit shared some intriguing details from India’s T20 World Cup campaign, especially as the team was preparing for the match against Pakistan.

“Before the India vs Pakistan match, we were told there was a threat – something was going on. So, two days before the game, we weren’t allowed to step out of the hotel. The atmosphere started building from there,” Rohit said on JioHotstar.

Though Indian captains often dub matches against Pakistan as ‘just another contest’, Rohit admitted that the statement isn’t really true.

“We were ordering food in, and the hotel was so packed you could barely walk. Fans, media – everyone was there. That’s when you realise this isn’t just another match – something special is about to happen. As soon as we got near the stadium, it already felt like a celebration – Indian fans, Pakistani fans, all dancing and enjoying themselves,” he added.

“I’ve played so many India-Pakistan games now – I’ve lost count – but that pre-match energy, that feeling… It’s always something else. Nothing compares to it,” he further said.

In the T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan, it was Rishabh Pant who scored 42 off 31 balls in an innings that saw the Indian team being dismissed for 119 in 19 overs.

“We just wanted Rishabh to be Rishabh – do all the things he does best, unsettle the bowlers, play freely. And he did that perfectly. His innings was around 42, and on that pitch, that’s as good as scoring 70.”

In the match, Jasprit Bumrah turned out to be the team’s saviour again, with three wickets to his name, helping the team secure a 6-run win.

“With Bumrah, you’ve got to be proactive in how you use him. He’s a wicket-taker, and at the same time, he’s not going to leak runs. So, how do you balance that, especially when the opposition is chasing at a run-a-ball? Arshdeep has been phenomenal too,” said Rohit Sharma.

“Over the last two years, there’s a reason he’s become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is – he’s a really smart bowler. So, with both of them, my focus was on how to use their remaining overs strategically,” he added.

  • U.S. Missile Defenses Strained After 12-Day THAAD Deployment in Israel

The THAAD deployment to Israel came with challenges as supporting allies in conflict zones would mean using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

The United States used up a total of 15 to 20 per cent of the country’s advanced anti-missile system or Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) to bolster the defence against Iran’s aerial strikes during the 12-day conflict in which Israel and the US struck nuclear facilities.

According to Military Watch Magazine, an estimate of 60-80 interceptors were utilised during the conflict. A single launch of a THAAD interceptor costs between $12-15 million, so the entire cost of these interceptors sits between $810 million to $1.215 billion. This figure dwarfs the cost of Iran’s missile barrages. This asymmetric cost of defence versus offence is not sustainable in the long term or multi-front conflicts.

Per the Wall Street Journal, the US had restocked the THAAD system set up in Israel in 2024.

Iran had launched a barrage of missiles on cities across Israel in response to attacks on its nuclear and military facilities. They included models such as Ghadr, Emad, Kheibar Shekan, and the Fattah-1 hypersonic missile, which is hard to intercept as it travels at up to Mach 15.

The THAAD deployment to Israel came with challenges as supporting allies in conflict zones would mean using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

The THAAD system was designed to counter the expanding missile capabilities of nations like North Korea and Iran as they were pursuing medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of delivering conventional or nuclear warheads.

Moreover, the United States produces only about 50-60 THAAD interceptors annually, which means it could take years to replenish what it just expended in 11 days.

The war between Israel and Iran came to an end after US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that a “complete and total ceasefire” had been reached by both the parties. In the end, the US-Israel campaign has managed to contain, not defeat, Iran. Nuclear sites were hit. Military leadership was shaken. But Iran’s regime, and its nuclear ambition, remain intact.

  • AirTags Link Organised Drug Network to Child in £1.6M Bust

The six-year-old was unaware of the contents of his bags. He was flown back to the UK on Wednesday and is staying with his father.

A six-year-old British boy was detained in Mauritius after customs officials found 14 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside his suitcase. According to The Telegraph, the child was detained alongside seven other people at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport on Sunday. The group was reportedly carrying more than 161 kilograms of cannabis, worth 1.6 million pounds (approximately Rs 18.8 crore), hidden in the luggage. Seven of the suspects were British, including the boy whose luggage contained 24 packages of drugs wrapped in clear cellophane.

The group was stopped at the main international airport in Mauritius as they disembarked from a British Airways flight from Gatwick, per the outlet. The boy’s mother was also arrested and had 17kg hidden in her own bags. The eighth suspect was reported to be a Romanian living in Britain. He was allegedly holding 32 packages of cannabis.

Mauritian authorities described the use of a child to transport drugs as “outrageous and inhumane”, adding, “This is one of the most revolting cases we have encountered in recent years”.

The boy was unaware of the contents of his bags. He was flown back to the UK on Wednesday and is staying with his father.

Authorities discovered 11 Apple AirTags, suggesting links to a drug gang. The drugs cache was found during a joint operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) and the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit (ADSU) at the airport. Officials are treating the group as part of an organised crime network responsible for smuggling drugs from Europe to Mauritius.

The seven suspects, 5 women and 2 men, have been charged with drug trafficking and placed in custody. They appeared at Mahebourg court on the island’s south-eastern coast on Monday, with all remaining in pre-trial detention.

Authorities also carried out a series of targeted raids on hotels containing British nationals after police received a lead that more foreign passengers may have been transporting drugs. No arrests were made at any of the three locations searched

  • US Rapper Silento, Best Known For Hit Song ‘Watch Me Whip’, Gets 30 Years In Prison For Killing Cousin

US rapper Silento, best known for his hit song ‘Watch Me Whip’, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his 34-year-old cousin, Frederick Rooks III, in 2021. According to the New York Post, the 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, pleaded guilty but mentally ill Wednesday to four charges, including voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony crime, and concealing the death of his cousin. A murder charge was dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Voluntary manslaughter came with a 20-year prison sentence, while the firearm possession and concealment of death counts entail five years each. Hawk has been in jail since his February 2021 arrest, per the outlet. Silento is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He rose to fame in 2015 with his debut song ‘Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)’. The song sparked a global craze and racked up millions of views on YouTube. The track even peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2021, police found the rapper shot in the leg and face outside a home in a suburban area near Decatur. Cops said that they found 10 bullet casings near Rook’s body, and the security video from a nearby home showed a white BMW SUV speeding away shortly after the gunshots. A family member of Mr Rooks reportedly told officials that Silento had picked up Rooks in a white BMW SUV, and GPS data and other cameras put the vehicle at the site of the shooting. The rapper then confessed to the crime 10 days later after he was arrested. The bullet casings found at the scene matched the gun Silento had when he was arrested, officials said.

The prior year, Silento was charged while living in Southern California for allegedly threatening two people with a hatchet. He had been on bail after a recent arrest. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Hawk “walked into an unlocked stranger’s home” and attempted to strike the two people in the home with a hatchet before one of them managed to disarm him.”

  • What Is A “Mayday” Call That Air India Pilot Issued Before Ahmedabad Crash

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 on board, struggled to gain altitude and descended around 1:38 pm, erupting into a massive fireball moments later. An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport crashed shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 on board, struggled to gain altitude and descended around 1:38 pm, erupting into a massive fireball moments later.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, issued a “Mayday” call to Air Traffic Control shortly before the plane lost contact.

    What Is A ‘Mayday Call’?

A Mayday call is an internationally recognised distress signal used primarily in aviation and maritime communication to indicate a life-threatening emergency.

The term comes from the French phrase “m’aider“, which means “help me.”It was first introduced in the 1920s and is now a standard protocol globally. The call is always said three times in a row, “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday”, to ensure it is clearly understood, especially over noisy or poor-quality radio transmissions.Who Issues A Mayday Call?

The Mayday call is issued by the person in command of a vehicle or vessel, usually a pilot or a ship’s captain when they are facing a severe emergency.

This can include situations like engine failure, onboard fire, loss of control, or any scenario that threatens the safety of the aircraft or ship and everyone on board. In aviation, the pilot communicates the Mayday call to Air Traffic Control (ATC) over the radio. In rare cases, a Mayday can also be relayed by another nearby aircraft or ship if the original caller has lost communication.

What Happens After A Mayday Call?

Once a Mayday is declared, all radio traffic on that frequency is cleared. The person in distress shares their location, nature of emergency, and other key details. ATC or emergency services then take over with rescue coordination.Ahmedabad Crash: What We Know So Far

Aviation expert Sanjay Lazar told NDTV that the aircraft experienced a catastrophic failure to climb, losing control at just 825 feet above ground. The Dreamliner was heavily fuelled for the long-haul flight to London, which intensified the explosion on impact.

Visuals from the crash site showed thick plumes of grey smoke rising as multiple ambulances and emergency teams rushed to the scene. Police have cordoned off the area, and traffic around the airport has been diverted.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said he was monitoring the situation and instructed all agencies to respond swiftly and in coordination. Further details on casualties and survivors are awaited as rescue operations continue.

  • Has Housefull 5’s Alternate Endings Gamble Paid Off At The Box Office?

In the age of sequels and remakes of Bollywood, the Housefull franchise has stood the test of time in more ways than one.

Traversing a journey from being an outright comedy with mindless humour to now blending a murder mystery with laughs in its fifth installment, the Housefull franchise has grown over these last 10 years. The plot of Housefull 5 revolves around multiple imposters who board a cruise ship and claim to be the son of a billionaire who has died recently. The story then unravels to show how they each bring forth their stories to prove their identities as they compete for his fortune.

Besides a murder at the centre of the story, Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, came with two climaxes with two different killers in the form of Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B

But how effective has been this two alternate endings approach?

In conversation with NDTV, trade analyst Taran Adarsh sheds light on Housefull 5‘s double-climax theory. Is it a boon or a bane? No Harm Was Done In The Case of Housefull 5, But…”

The multi-starrer Housefull 5 smoothly entered the Rs 100 crore club within four days of its release. Backed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film was released in theatres on June 6.

The ensemble cast of the film features Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueliene Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangda Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer and Johnny Lever.

According to Taran Adarsh, the film collected Rs 126.08 crore as of Wednesday The two-endings strategy may have generated a lot of buzz around the film ahead of its release, but the trade expert believes the success of Housefull 5 can’t be attributed to it.

Taran Adarsh says, “I don’t think the dual ending formula has worked because people tend to get confused at times. Producers actually should stick to one ending… Once the secret is out in one climax, then they will go towards the other (version). And, then the second ending would take a backseat. So, sticking to one (ending) very important. In this case, no harm was done. It didn’t harm the film, but that confusion could have been a little bothersome.”

The trade analyst also reiterates why he does not see the double-climax trend to be something that directors would be looking to implement in future.

He shares, “You can shoot an alternate ending if you feel like it. It has happened in the past… But what happens is that once the film has been accepted, then even if you try to change it (the ending), there won’t be much difference in the result.”
